Char's Newsletter - Welcome QRI giveaway subscribers
Greetings to new readers!
Scott from QRI tells me you’ve all received a copy of my short story “A Knight’s Tale” when you signed up for the QRI newsletter on the QueeRomance Ink website last month. Part of that ‘deal’ included agreeing to be on my mailing list, which is why you’re receiving this email. (And you can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of the email.)
So here we are…
Let me say Hi, thank you and welcome! And before I introduce myself, let me tell you this is my first newsletter using Substack. Fingers crossed…
A little about me:
I answer to "Char" or "Charlene."
I write multiple genres. My 1st published tale was called "A Glimmer of Hope," and it appears in the Star Wars Adventure Journal - a role-playing game magazine published by West End Games ages ago.
I just published Rogue (Tales of Robin Hood) in July 2023. This is my 4th medieval historical novel, a stand-alone that focuses on secondary characters I created in the Battle Scars trilogy. Stephan, from “A Knight’s Tale”, was a main character in that series, but has a minor role in Rogue.
FYI… Men of the Cross (Battle Scars I) is $1.99 (UK & US Kindle Countdown) until 8amGMT /11pmPDT Aug 15.I love action-packed movies & television - historical and sci-fi/fantasy in particular. Star Wars, anyone? How about Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Vikings, The Last Kingdom, and the Marvel Universe? But I'm also a fan of romantic comedies.
I love to travel & am a coffee addict, so don't be surprised to see photos from various adventures and coffee shops here, or on other social media (if you follow me there).
I was a librarian at a major university in Kansas until January 2020. After 23+ years, I retired so I have more time for grandchildren, writing, travel & coffee (of course!) Woo-hoo!!!
I used to spend a lot of time on the weekends with this view. It was my favorite writing spot when I lived in Manhattan (Kansas, not NY). It was one of the local coffee shops a couple of blocks from where I worked.
I moved from Kansas to Louisiana in 2022, and my go-to drink is still the cafe latte, no flavor - usually hot, but sometimes iced. (Seems a lot more iced during the miserably hot weather we have in summers!)
Here’s what you’ll be hearing about in the coming months:
“A King’s Man No More” - a short story for the new historical fiction anthology Exile, which should be published in November 2023. This is a sequel to Swords of the King, but that won’t be required reading to enjoy this tale of Robin who-is-not-yet-Hood. It will be a good prequel to Rogue!
Untitled novel - sequel to Rogue
I only have notes and a bare outline for this sequel. I know how it opens, and how it ends. It’s just all that muddle in the middle 350+ pages I have to figure out.
I will occasionally promote my SciFi novel, Echoes of the Storm, and other writers’ scifi/fantasy, but the majority of my newsletter will be historical fiction related. If you’re like me, your inbox is flooded with emails. I usually send out one email per month, but you will occasionally see an extra one.
I hope you enjoyed “A Knight’s Tale” if you’ve had time to read it. That’s all for now! Take care, my friends.
